What is travel insurance?

Travel insurance is a type of cover for when you plan to go on holiday in Europe or the rest of the world. There are many types of insurance deals to choose from that cover numerous areas so it is easy to get a policy that is tailored to your own needs and requirements. Depending on the length of your stay, type of trip and location insurance providers will give you a quote that will include various features that can be added to your policy, including cancellation plans. If the worst should happen and you lose personal items then it gives you piece of mind that you are covered and can claim back any expenses through the insurance provider.

What types of travel insurance are out there?

There are many types of travel insurance on offer, depending on what you are looking for. For example if you travel abroad on a number of occasions per year then it might be worth taking out annual holiday insurance which covers you for a complete 12 months. However if you travel less frequently there are single holiday insurance policies, backpacker insurance, ski insurance, business travel insurance, medical travel insurance and over 64 travel insurance. Wherever you are going or whatever you are doing, you will fit into one of these categories. Most single holiday insurance policies will start off at a bargain price which contains no cancellation policy, and if you search around you will find some single holiday insurance packages starting for as little as £4.

Some advice on travel insurance

Travel Insurance policies will contain many features and you will need to read through and find what options are best for you. The most common features that are added to your policy are:

* Medical Expenses
* Baggage
* Personal Accident
* Personal Liability
* Cancellation

Each of the above will have a maximum limit, for example Personal Accident on a standard policy may be £10,000 but if you upgrade to a higher level policy for an extra couple of pound you can get £25,000 cover. All this, of course, depends on your situation and if you need these requirements.

Other features that can be added to your policy are:

* Loss of Passport
* Legal Expenses
* Cash & Documents
* Travel Delay
* Curtailment
